Our Story

The Original Canadian XO Maple Liqueur began its journey as one of the first products of Maple Leaf Distillers, a company founded in Winnipeg, the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba. This distinctive whisky liqueur quickly earned recognition for its exceptional quality and uniquely Canadian character.

Subsequently, Angostura Canada acquired the rights and production continued at the same location until mid-2000, when Angostura moved most of its production abroad and the Winnipeg facility was closed. Today, this distinctly Canadian drink is produced under the brand Canadian Maple – an international company headquartered in Canada with production facilities in Europe.

While this delicate liqueur was for many years available exclusively in North America, it is now being introduced to the European market. It is still crafted in strict accordance with the original recipe – using Grade #1 Maple Syrup from Quebec blended with cask‑strength whisky from Alberta – maintaining the same high quality and uniqueness that made XO Maple Liqueur famous in North America.

Our partner, The Maple Treat from Quebec, supplies Grade‑A maple syrup. It takes 40 liters of sap harvested during the precious six‑week spring season to produce just one liter of this liquid gold.
